Building The Wall of Hope: A Day on Site with Habitat for Humanity

Last weekend, Second Use broke from our routine of material removal and salvage to do quite the opposite- build. As part of our ongoing relationship with Habitat for Humanity, we had the opportunity to take part in the construction of the newest home in The Woods at Golden Given, Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity’s largest neighborhood to date.

DIY Cold Frames

Any experienced gardener or repurposer knows the benefit of using old sash windows for cold frames. These small greenhouse-like enclosures extend gardening the season, meaning you can start planting earlier in the spring, grow later into the fall, and give hot weather plants an environment within which they will thrive.

Customer Project Submission: Foundry Pattern Coat Rack

Second Use Customer Carma Gael created this striking coat rack and shelf from a foundry pattern they purchased at the Second Use store.  Although they were originally looking for a worn piece of wood to give the coat rack an industrial feel, they “knew they were on to something” when they stumbled across the wealth of foundry patterns at the store.
